Weight Loss Medications

Prescription weight loss medications prescribed through our service:

  • Are prescription-only medicines licensed for weight management in the UK
  • May cause side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation
  • Are not suitable for everyone and require clinical assessment
  • Should be used as part of a comprehensive lifestyle programme including diet and exercise
  • May interact with other medications you are taking

Individual results may vary. Weight loss outcomes depend on multiple factors including adherence to medication, lifestyle modifications, and individual metabolism.

Contraindications

You should not use our weight management medications if you have or have had:

  • Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
  • Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
  • Severe gastrointestinal disease
  • History of pancreatitis
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Allergic reactions to any ingredients in the medication

When to Seek Emergency Care

Contact NHS 111 or seek emergency medical attention immediately if you experience:

  • Severe abdominal pain that does not go away
  • Signs of allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Signs of hypoglycaemia (shakiness, sweating, confusion) especially if you have diabetes
  • Rapid heartbeat or chest pain
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Signs of pancreatitis (severe upper stomach pain spreading to your back)

Reporting Side Effects

If you experience any side effects, please:

  • Contact our clinical team through your patient portal
  • Inform your GP if appropriate
  • Report serious side effects to the Yellow Card Scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk
